EPD Accuracy
If you have spent much time looking at sale catalogs, sire summaries, or semen catalogs, you have probably spent a lot of time looking at EPDs, or expected progeny differences. We covered the basics of EPDs in the module entitled, “What is an EPD?”. If you are not already familiar with EPDs or haven’t watched that module, I would encourage you to pause this video until you have reviewed that information. In the process of examining an animal’s EPDs, you have probably noticed that a second number is usually listed below or in parenthesis after the EPD. This number is the EPD accuracy and it is a very important component in both understanding EPDs and in selection decisions. This module will review EPD accuracies, what these accuracy values mean, and how to use them in selection decisions.
